DAT File Viewer provides a browser-based inspection tool and general educational information about DAT files. The tool and articles are intended to help you understand a file before choosing an appropriate application or workflow.

No universal DAT format

The .dat extension can represent many unrelated formats. The viewer cannot interpret every proprietary database, game archive, media container, encrypted file, or application-specific structure. Readable output does not establish that a file is complete, accurate, or safe.

Keep backups and verify results

Keep an untouched copy of important files before editing, renaming, exporting, or converting them. Renaming an extension does not convert the underlying data. Check exported results in the appropriate application before relying on them, especially for important records.

Accuracy and availability

We aim to provide useful explanations, but articles may contain mistakes or become outdated as software changes. The viewer may show only part of a large file, interpret a delimiter or text encoding incorrectly, or be unable to process a particular format. We do not guarantee that the tool will open, repair, recover, or convert any specific file, or that the website will always be available.

Unknown files and security

Do not execute an unfamiliar file merely because it has a .dat extension. Do not disable security protections to open it. Use trusted software, keep backups, and seek specialist help when a file is valuable or its origin is uncertain. This website is not a malware scanner or a substitute for a security assessment.

External links and product names

Links to third-party websites are provided for reference. Their content, downloads, availability, and privacy practices are controlled by their respective operators. Review those sites before using their services. Product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners; mentioning them does not imply affiliation or endorsement.
